Marital infidelity in the West lifestyle has become a widely discussed social issue, as divorce rates, emotional affairs, online cheating, and extra-marital relationships continue to rise in many European countries. Infidelity is often linked to changing family values, secular lifestyles, social media influence, dating apps, workplace relationships, and the normalization of open relationships. In modern European society, cheating is sometimes viewed as a personal choice rather than a moral failure, and many people justify adultery through concepts such as individual freedom, sexual liberation, and emotional dissatisfaction. However, marital betrayal still causes serious consequences including loss of trust, psychological trauma, depression, family breakdown, child insecurity, and long-term emotional damage. Studies on European relationships frequently associate infidelity with lack of communication, financial stress, low commitment, and cultural shifts away from traditional marriage. From an Islamic perspective, marital infidelity is strictly forbidden and considered a major sin. Islam strongly emphasizes loyalty, honesty, chastity, and responsibility within marriage. Adultery, known as zina in Islam, is clearly prohibited in the Quran and Sunnah because it destroys family stability, harms social order, and leads to moral corruption. Islamic teachings promote modesty, lowering the gaze, avoiding temptation, and maintaining strong marital bonds through mutual respect, emotional support, and religious values. Unlike secular European views that may tolerate cheating under certain circumstances, Islam views marital infidelity as a violation of divine law and a betrayal of both the spouse and God. Islamic solutions to prevent infidelity include strengthening faith, regular prayer, open communication between الزوج and wife, الزواج based on trust, المجتمع support, and التربية الأخلاقية. In conclusion, while marital infidelity in Europe is often treated as a social or psychological problem, Islam treats it as a serious moral and spiritual issue that requires repentance, self-discipline, and a return to ethical family principles.
